STEP 1: Mark Bracket Positions
1) Inside Mount: Place the headrail inside the window frame. Mark the screw holes through the brackets.

2) Outside Mount: Hold the brackets on the wall above the window. Use a level to align and mark the screw holes.

**DO NOT cut or fiddle with the strings behind the shades, otherwise the shades will be damaged and cannot function.
STEP 2: Install Brackets
Drill holes at your marks. Secure the brackets firmly using the provided screws.
STEP 3: Attach Headrail
Align the headrail with the installed brackets. Push or slide it into place until it clicks or sits securely.
STEP 4: Final Check
Gently tug on the headrail to confirm it’s secure. Operate the shade to ensure smooth movement.

Measure Your Roman Shades Correctly

Roman shades can be inside or outside mounted. Check the window frame depth first to consider which one to choose for your home.

Measure for Outside-mounted Shades

Ordered Width = Window Casing Width - 3/8 inches

Deduct 3/8 inches from your window casing width to ensure the shades fit inside the frame.
Note there will be a slight gap (approx. 1/4 inches on each side) to allow for smooth operation.

Measure for Inside-mounted Shades

Ordered Width = Window Casing Width + 2~4 inches

A clean, built-in look, 2 1/2 inches minimum depth requirement.
We recommend adding additional width 2-4 inches to prevent light gaps on the sides of your window.
We recommend installing the shades 4-6 inches above the frame, allowing window exposure when shades are up.

Are Roman shades customizable?

Yes. We provide custom Roman shades made from a wide range of fabric including linen, cotton, sheer and patterned ones

The default fold styles on our site is Plain Fold. For other fold styles, please contact our customer service service@unicurt.com.

What is the difference between an inside mount and an outside mount?

Inside Mount: Installed within the window frame for a clean, built-in look. Requires a window frame with sufficient depth(at least 1 1/2 inches) for shades to fit in.

Outside Mount: Installed on the wall or molding above the window. This can make the window appear larger and is better at preventing light from leaking around the edges.

How to Measure for OUTSIDE MOUNT Shades?

For window frame depths less than 1 1/2 inches, outside mount shades are recommended.

Measure window width from the outer frame and add 2-4 inches for full coverage.
Measure the window height from the outer frame and add the height you would like the shades above the window frame. 4-6 inches is recommended so that it can fully uncover the window when the shade is up.

How to measure for INSIDE MOUNT Shades?

For inside mount Roman shades, a minimum window depth of 1 1/2 inches is required.

Measure the inside width of the window at three points: the top, middle, and bottom. Use the smallest one and round down to the nearest 1/8 inch, then deduct 3/8 inch. That will be your Roman shade's width.
Measure the inside height from the top of the frame to the sill at three points: the left, center, and right. Use the largest one as the shade's height.

If I want to have Roman shade inside mounted, what is the minimum window depth?

For inside-mounted shades, the window depth should be at least 1 1/2 inches, so that the shades can fit inside the windows. For depths less than that, outside mount is recommended.

Does memory training work for all curtain fabrics?

Memory training is suitable for most fabrics, but not for velvet fabric.
We don’t recommend adding memory train to velvet fabric as high heat may damage velvet fibers (causing fraying, shrinking) and fade colors.

Do I need to subtract ⅜ inch for inside mount shades?

Yes. If your window frame width is 50″, you should order the shade width 49 5/8″.(please deduct 3/8 inch by yourself)

Are your Roman shades cordless?

Yes! We offer cordless (manual) Roman shades as well as motorized options.

Do you offer motorized Roman shades?

Yes, we provide motorized Roman shades with RF remote contro. Our motorized Roman shades come with remotes, by default and support up to 15 channels.

Do you offer samples for Roman shades?

Yes and ordering sample fabric first is recommended.

Does your Roman shades come with headrail?

Yes! All of our Roman shades come with a headrail by default. Our headrail and brackets are made of durable aluminum alloy.

Can I get my Roman shades lined?

Yes, we provide lining options for all of our curtains, including drapes and Roman shades.

With different color options, they can provide extra light blocking of 20-40%.

Are Roman shades safe for homes with children and pets?

All of our Roman shades are cordless, including manual and motorized. And cordless and motorized Roman shades are the safest options, as they eliminate dangling cords that pose a strangulation hazard.

How do I clean and maintain my Roman shades?

Regular vacuuming with a brush attachment helps prevent dust buildup. Most shades should be spot-cleaned with a mild fabric-safe cleaner.
No machine wash/dry clean.

How long do Roman shades typically last?

With proper care, our Roman shades can last over 5 years, depending on fabric quality, usage, and maintenance.

How long will it take to get my Roman shades?

For custom Roman shades, it takes about 5-10 days to customize them, and another 7 days for shipment.

That is, generally, you will get your custom Roman shades within 12-17 days after ordering.
